■Enoch

　旧約聖書の人名には「語源不祥」だが「ヘプライ語で～と思われる」……といったものが多いらしい。
　ただし「ヘブライ語」で解釈された歴史が長いため，それが「通例の解釈」として各種人名辞典に「断定的に」書かれている場合がある。

　Enok に関しては、

GRS （アメリカ人名辞典）
語源は不祥だが，おそらくヘブライ語で，語意は "mortal"　と思われる。この名前は聖書においては，半神的なものに対して人間が優位に立ち始める頃の族長の話の中に見られる。
EGW
　Hebrew 'trained', 'skilled', the name of a patriarch. father of Methuselah.

　Enoch, said to mean 'dedication' was the name of Adam's descendant, the father of Methuselah..

H&H
　Biblical: name (possibly meaning 'experienced' in Hebrew) of the son of Cain (Genesis 4: 16-22) and father of Methuselah (Genesis 5: 18-24)

　The meaning of the name is disputed, and it is possible that. the stories about the biblical Enock may go back to a Babylonian sun-god.

　EGW と LR は断定しているが，他の辞典では perhaps だの said to mean だのと曖昧だ。
「さらに怪しい人名辞典」のデータを作る時，基本にした参考図書はGRS「アメリカ人名辞典」だった。それと EGW ・H&H を照らし合わせ，記述が違う時はその時々の判断でどれかを優先した。

　GRS（アメリカ人名辞典）の語意説明は他の辞典に比べて異質だ。どのヘブライ語で解釈したのかも不明で，「まさか訳された段階で誤植があったのか」と心配になる。
　しかしとりあえず「さらに怪しい人名辞典」では「アメリカ人名辞典」に敬意を表して語意解釈を mortal のままとする。
